THE WIFE

I sit looking out the window

Waiting for you to arrive

I know you're the only reason

That I am still alive

I know you miss times from the past

I wish I could bring them back

What's past I now cannot retrieve

It's the gift of time I lack

You've held me close in happiness

And nursed me when I was sick

If I had it to do all over again

You're still the one I'd pick

On the meadow I see you now

With pure joy my heart reels

I hurry to meet you at the door

In my chair with wooden wheels

Life cannot go on forever

It's just a fact of nature

As death takes me you should know

My wife, you're God's finest creature
