MARBLE STONE

Left far behind in a foreign land

By a cleft overlooking the sea

I spend this time with dear old friends

Not by choice, but for eternity

Warm sunshine falls on manicured lawns

Cool sea breezes move past marble stone

Breaking waves call to us on the shore

Perhaps someday we'll all return home

Was a time now in the distant past

Beyond the reef on an island beach

I wonder do they still remember

Or has time put it far out of reach

Long since left behind and now forgotten

Another soldier's field by the bay

Most prefer not to be reminded

But some still visit on 'Veteran's Day'
